Course description

Course Information

The course prepares candidates for the Watchkeeping Engine Officer diploma on vessels with main engine power of 750 kW or more. It comprises 819 hours of instruction over 20 weeks.

Admission Requirements

The candidate must hold certificates for advanced fire protection, first aid, ship engine room command, and lifeguarding, and satisfy one of the following options:

  • completion of studies in MJE type A, B or C, 12‑month sea‑time in the engine department on vessels ≥750 kW, and passing the operational exam;
  • possession of a ship electro‑automation officer diploma, 24‑month sea‑time and training in MJE type D followed by the exam;
  • 36‑month sea‑time (including at least 24 months on vessels ≥750 kW) together with training in MJE type D and the exam.

Sea‑time must include at least 6 months of watch‑keeping duties under the supervision of a senior mechanic or watchkeeping engine officer, documented in a certificate.

Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure and Development of 28 February 2014, Journal of Laws of 25 April 2014, item 536 – concerning framework training programmes and examination requirements for marine engineers.

Training goal

Obtain the Watchkeeping Engine Officer diploma and acquire the necessary operational knowledge and skills in the engine department.

Requirements

Kandydat musi posiadać:

  • świadectwa szkoleń z ochrony przeciwpożarowej (wyższy stopień), pierwszej pomocy medycznej, dowodzenia siłownią okrętową oraz ratownika;
  • jedną z następujących opcji:
    • ukończenie studiów w MJE typu A, B lub C, 12‑miesięczna praktyka pływania w dziale maszynowym na statkach ≥750 kW oraz zdanie egzaminu operacyjnego;
    • dyplom oficera elektroautomatyka okrętowego, 24‑miesięczna praktyka oraz szkolenie w MJE typu D i egzamin;
    • 36‑miesięczna praktyka (w tym co najmniej 24 miesiące na statkach ≥750 kW) oraz szkolenie w MJE typu D i egzamin.
  • minimum 6 miesięcy pełnienia obowiązków wachtowych pod nadzorem starszego mechanika lub oficera mechanika wachtowego, udokumentowane w zaświadczeniu.
